Bravestarr: Fort Kerium - Design
Another student project in Entertainment Design at FZD was in need of some accompanying demo work. Since this iteration was based on 80ies cartoon tv shows that were in dire need of a redesign, I chose to base my work on the fun and slightly whacky sci-fi wild west crossover ‘Bravestarr’.

With a premise as out there as this, a big round of technology and design language exploration was needed. Aside from the classical shape of western buildings I decided to give the conical tipi shape a lot of ground in my adaptation, since the naive American heritage was already strong in the original IP.

After the language I did a couple of scene sketches to establish the view I wanted to depict of the colony town of Fort Kerium on the planet New Texas.
Very fun project indeed! :)
With the composition and language established in broad strokes the town of Fort Kerium needed some 3D blockout. With this medium it was also extremely fun to play with a couple of geometric primitives for the look of the alien rocks to form some cool canyons.
With the 3D and basic lighting in place, a lot of fun with the line drawing ensued to demonstrate to the students the importance of fundamentals in perspective if you can’t go through and model every single bit of a complex environment like this.
